about

I'm a father, husband and seeker doing my best to navigate life and its wonderful complexities.

By following my curiosity and saying yes to things that spark interest, I've curated a portfolio career of sorts: writer, podcast producer, startups programme manager, entrepreneur and even a three-year stint as a chocolatier.

You can learn a bit more about these projects below, but also check out my latest one, The Nana Principles.

Writing

Contributed the essay, The Anti-Footballer to the acclaimed anthology by Calum Jacobs, A New Formation: How Black Footballers Shaped The Modern Game, published by Penguin imprint, Merky Books (2022). I assess the claim that footballers, especially those that are Black, occcupy a "dream job". As an uncommonly transparent player, Danny Rose's outspokenness counters the narrative of the emotionally impervious player, hihglighting the pitfalls that can come with a career in the game -  a loss of autonomy, press slander, fan abuse and mental illness.

Produced the supplementary pamplet, The CARICOM Guide to Black Male Mental Health, exploring the way society uniquely maligns the black male psyche and offering techniques for alleviating feelings of isolation, anxiety and non-clinical depression for the second issue of Caricom Magazine (2019).

Podcasts

Assistant producer, writer and editor of the five-part podcast series, The Museum of Bad Vibes, commissioned by BBC Sounds Audio Lab (2022). In the Museum of Bad Vibes, Hanna Adan explores the cultural & spiritual significance of an Akan Gold weight, Benin Bronze, a Chinese Ancestral Tablet and a Papua New Guinean Koi board; learns how they they got to be in some of the UK’s most celebrated museums and asks whether they could or should be returned to their countries and communities of origin.
